These photosynthesis stations make learning interactive and engaging, allowing students to explore photosynthesis throughย hands-onย activities while deepening their understanding withย text-dependent tasks.

This activity is a fun way to get your studentsย moving, collaborating, and learningย in a variety of meaningful ways, all while reinforcing key concepts about photosynthesis!

Perfect as a standalone photosynthesis lesson or as part of my growing biology lab stations bundle – on sale now!

This photosynthesis lab station activity isย uniqueย becauseย all stations include necessary background informationย with important content, definitions, examples, and more! This makes for a greatย no-prior-knowledge neededย activity!

PHOTOSYNTHESIS STATIONS OVERVIEW:

  • Station 1: Photosynthesis Equation
Students read about photosynthesis, analyze a diagram, and answer questions. No other materials required.

  • Station 2: The Chloroplast
Students explore the structure and function of the chloroplast, complete a coloring activity, and answer questions. Only colored pencils are needed.

  • Station 3: Photosynthetic Pigments
Students read about pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids, and anthocyanin), how they work, and the colors of light they absorb and reflect. They complete a coloring activity and answers questions. Only colored pencils are needed.

  • Station 4: Stomata and Homeostasis
Students will read about stomata and homeostasis and analyze diagrams of a stomata in action. Students then sketch and label a stomata. You can use a microscope specimen if you’d like, but it is not necessary because real pictures and diagrams are included. No other materials are needed.

  • Station 5: Temperature, Enzymes, and Photosynthesis Graphing
Students investigate the role of enzymes and the effects of temperature on the rate of photosynthesis. They analyze a graph and then create and analyze their own graph to see relationships. No other materials are necessary.

  • Station 6: Steps of Photosynthesis
Students watch a short YouTube video to explore the steps of photosynthesis and answer questions as they go in sequence of the video. Only an electronic device is needed (phones work!) to view the video.

  • Station 7: Light-Dependent Reactions
Students read an overview of light-dependent reactions, including inputs, outputs, and simplified steps, and then complete a graphic organizer diagram and answer questions. No other materials are needed.

  • Station 8: Light-Independent Reactions (Calvin Cycle)
Students read an overview of light-independent reactions, including inputs, outputs, and simplified steps, and then complete a graphic organizer diagram and answer questions. They also will complete a simple card sort to model the steps. No other materials are needed.

Easy Set Up:

With the included teacher’s guide, you will receive a stations overview page with each station’s overview and necessary materials needed to be placed at each station. You do not need station signage because each station card is clearly marked with the station number and name. You only needย colored pencilsย for two stations andย one electronic deviceย for one station.

Perfect for engaging students before exploring a unit, as a formative check within a unit, or as an in-depth review!
