Non-Mendelian Genetics Stations – Complex Patterns of Inheritance

Non-Mendelian Genetics Stations Overview:

• Station 1: Incomplete Dominance
  Students roll dice to determine parent alleles, complete Punnett squares, and record phenotype ratios to see how blending traits occur.

 

• Station 2: Codominance
  Students complete Punnett squares for different cow crosses and recommend the best breeding pair to produce roan offspring.

 

• Station 3: Multiple Alleles
  Students draw genotype cards, set up Punnett squares, and convert genotypes into blood type phenotypes with percentages.

 

• Station 4: Polygenic Traits
  Students count corn kernels by shade, graph their results, and see how polygenic inheritance creates continuous variation.

 

• Station 5: Pleiotropy
  Students match patient cards with disease cards and explain how one gene can affect multiple traits and body systems.

 

• Station 6: Epistasis
  Students sort Labrador genotypes into black, chocolate, or yellow categories to see how one gene can mask another.

 

• Station 7: Sex-Linked Traits
  Students draw genotype cards, complete Punnett squares, and use colors to show normal, carrier, and colorblind offspring.

 

• Station 8: Environmental Influence on Traits
  Students read real-world scenarios and decide whether traits are influenced more by genes, the environment, or both.

Minimal Materials & Easy Prep

You do not need station signage because each station card is clearly marked with the station number and name.
