In this fun and low-prep layers of the Earth lab, students model the layers of the Earth using a M&M like candy. Students make claims as to what part of the candy represents which layer of the Earth and back it up with reasoning and evidence.
In the pre-lab section, students label the layers of the Earth and research facts about each of Earthโs layers. A lesson plan and answer key are included!
Low prep and easy to follow โ this lab is sure to be a hit in your classroom!ย All you need is one M&M with a solid center per student. I use the pretzel ones in my classroom. If you have children allergic to chocolate or do not enjoy candy, peaches or apples can be used.
Appropriate for grades 6-11! I use this as the engagement or exploration activity in a 5E Model lesson. Students love it!
